The eclectic career of bass player Coleridge Goode, who turns 100 later this month, will be celebrated on November 21 as part of this year’s EFG London Jazz Festival, which starts next Friday. The concert, which will be hosted by fellow bassist and Goode’s close friend Gary Crosby, is part of a thread running through the festival that pays special attention to British jazz, from the cohorts of players now spilling out of music schools back to musicians such as the Jamaican-borne Goode, for whom the notion of a formal jazz course would have been unthinkable.
